Before we go on to booleans first create and other cylinder and reshape. We will use the cylinder when we use some of mash booleans commands. Now you become familiar a little about reshaping the objects. Creative polygonal cylinder and change radius to 0.5 and increasing the subdivisions change the shape of the cylinder like this.
Now we move on booleans. Booleans use to cut holes are append to another. We do have three options in booleans. Union, Difference and Intersection. You is almost like the group and combine but we're some difference that when we group are combine we can unblock the group object and separate the combine object also but when we use the union from booleans we can cannot separate. Because union merged the face edges and vertex and combine to objects to one. In short the union fuels two Objects together. Just be careful when you use the union. The other is the difference. This use to make the holes. The last is intersection. What intersection dose? It leaves parts which are intersect. Now one thing I must mention that the booleans has a farm of modeling works on the objects that are statics. If you're going to any animate shape of an object if it is corrector a something you really don’t want to use the booleans because what it dose it leave some of ruff edges that really don’t smooth well. We will see as we are going to use the booleans difference for our object. And I also explain you how you can use it and you don’t get any problem even you smooth the object. Now that's start once aging . Select the cylinder and duplicate place it like below. And after that duplicate 11 copies and place like this. Now go in Mash and open booleans to create holes. To order to use booleans we need to shift select the object. The point is first select the object you are using booleans on and then the object we do booleans with. In my when we select an object and will use shift select the object selected in last turn green and the object which are selected already turns while. In the case of our model we are using booleans on base (polygonal cube) and the combined 11 cylinder. We first select the base then cylinders like this. Now we open Mash and Booleans Mash > Booleans > Difference We get the shape like this. So this is how we use the booleans. Boolean command affect on two objects only that’s why we combined the cylinders. One thing I was talking about it that booleans is now good for the corrector modeling because you have to smooth the object lot of times. Let's try this on the base cube as we just used the difference which is the booleans command. We can see the object in smooth mode by pressing the keyboard keys following, 1, 2 and 3. Select base and press 1 and nothing will happen because keyboard key 1 shows us the actual shape of the object. When you press 2 you will feel see in the object becomes smooth and there is a wireframe around the abject the wireframe is actual object. So when you press the keyboard key 2 you can see the smooth object with the actual abject wireframe. And when you press the keyboard key 3 the wireframe will disappear and now you can see the same notes or object only. So after selecting the base cube press the keyboard key 3 shape appears like this. Now you'll see what`ll happened if you smooth after using the Booleans. |
