From this place the Gentle visitor will learn about NURBS that are Maya’s special feature of modeling. Nurbs surfaces are useful for organic modeling more than any other type of modeling. The word NURBS is an abbreviation which stands for Nor Uniform Rational B splines. Nurbs was the second step when 3D graphics came into the world of visualization. Initially it was poly who made possible to preview the real world on a two dimensional screen of computer’s monitor. With polygons 3D Artists were feeling something unnatural, however it was not so, and actual reason was the lack of skill because the only skill on the planet is 3D graphics and animation which came into existence and got progress within days instead of decades. So it was difficult to catch the whole flock in one sweep. That’s why 3D Artists wished something more rapid and more real for modeling real world like objects in computer, and NURBS made that possible. With NURBS it was now possible to make a real human in computer and then note his/her all of the vertices and then clone one for your own. Huh. It isn’t crazy. NURBS give you as real impact as you can see with your open eyes.

Parametric curves and surfaces stand for geometry by means of base functions plus control points. The base functions are built like functions of a particular parameter (U), with one for every coordinate value:

P(u) = (X(u), Y(u), Z(u));

Every coordinate function utilizes the similar basis, which is intended to obtain the individual coordinate value from every control point and create a biased sum. Within a number of bases (the plural of basis), for instance the Bézier basis, every one point is used.


nurbs_carsNURBS are basically a bundle of CV Curves. CVs stand for control vertices. The main difference between polygons and NURBS is that poly is straight line and nurbs curve is curved line. The more easy way to understand the difference is that poly line has been emanated from polygons that are maybe like quadrangle or rectangle or square on the other hand NURBS Curves has been derived from the circle which is something quite different then quadrangle shapes. A CV Curve is a piece of a Circle and a circle is the piece of the sphere, always. So when we create a CV cure it allows us to make a NURBS surface which has been emanated from circle or spheres. Why NURBS will not make organic models then?
