Creating Illusion of Multi Story Tower

This free video tutorial will teach you how to create an illusion with mapping a file texture onto a 3d object. After this tutorial you will be able to make great illusion for rendering task weather they are of architectural or mechanical modeling.

Text Tutorial of above video tutorial ........ ! ! !

In this text tutorial we are going to create an illusion of a great building without modeling anything. We’ll simply use a cylinder and that’s it. Therefore we’ll assign some file texture to the model for creating an illusion of huge multi story tower building. We’ll map file texture on the object with cylindrical mapping. We can use this technique in 3d architectural texturing for saving time of rendering. 3d architectural rendering takes a lot of time if we can’t use tricks like this.

Let’s start the lesson,

  • Create a polygon primitive cylinder with its default settings,

  • Move the cylinder on Y axis and place on the grid
  • Scale it uniformly so that it is easy to handle at all.

  • Right click on the cylinder and choose assign New Material
  • Select phong
  • Note: it will automatically carry you to the attribute editor
  • Rename the material with Tower
  • From the Common Material Attribute section click the checker swatch in front of the color slider
  • creating_multisotry_bulding_in_maya_008

Note: this will open a new window named Create Render Node
  • Select file swatch from Create Render Node Window

  • Locate the file of your choice from your hard disk by pressing the folder button in attribute editor, see the image below,

  • Select some appropriate thing like the images below,
    creating_multisotry_bulding_in_maya_014
  • Note: your cylinder will look like the image below after assigning
    the file texture to it,

    creating_multisotry_bulding_in_maya_016

  • Select the cylinder
  • Change the Menu Set to Polygons
  • Go to the Create UVs Menu
  • Select Cylindrical Mapping with default settings
  • Note: you will get something like the image below with cylindrical
    mapping handles,
  • Drag the green handle of scale Y and X for increasing the stories of the building
  • creating_multisotry_bulding_in_maya_020

Imagine! Above multi story tower is a simple default poly cylinder. If you try yourself to use your own ideas for making such things you will definitely get new and stunning results.

    Thanks
