There are several ways to do that. We can use polygon Torus to create a beautiful pipe. Or also we can use pipe also but this time we use the CV and EP curve and use some tools of surface menu.

We have to put the bulb about 15 to 20 cm from the base.

We use Nurbs curves to create the stand. Let's first be familiar with the curves. Maya have a number of curves tools which allows to draw the curves that you later use to create surfaces.

We have under the create menu a couple of them.

CV Curve Tool, EP Curve Tool, Pencil Curve Tool, Arc Tools and Text. These are the tools allows us to draw curve.

Everyone has its own function, CV curve and EP curve draw the line one by one. Pencil curve allows draw like a pencil. And we can use text to create 3-D texts in Maya.>/p>

For the lamp stand as I said we are going to use CV curve tool and EP curve tool

Create > CV curves tools & Create > EP Curve tool

Let's first create some structure so we'll able to draw the curve at once.

We need height about 20 cm from the base we the shape are most like a half circle.

(This is the process I use for myself) you can go ahead and draw a line.

The process I use is following.

Create a poly cube and change the height to 20cm, and create another cube and change the weight to 20m. You might get the point that we are going to draw a circle with 10cm radios.Like picture below,

Now combines both cubs. Now select the move tool and place the cube on the base on the lamp. Like this

Create an other cube and place it on the starting place.

Like this.

After placing the cube. Open up the top view and rotate the combined cube like this.

Now you had set the start point and ready to go to start creating the curve.

Open the create menu and select the CV curve.

Create > CV curve Tool

Now go in the side menu will start create curve in following direction,
