As we are creating a base of the Lamp 1 cm is not enough so the first action we will do is increase the width, height and depth in pCubeShape1 polycube1 settings.

Press 5 for shedding mode then select the cube and open the channel box change the width 12, height 5 and depth 12.

Every tool in Maya is holding its own options. By the using the option tool we can create a cube with the same merriment at once. To order to do that go in create, polygon primitives and this time don't click on the cube. Just watch there's a small box in the right side of the cube this is the option tool for cube,

When click on this box the following option window will be appear.

Now you can notice in the option menu that it set on the same settings we saw in the channel box. Now what do? we do the same as done in the channel box will change the width, height and depth to 12 in width, 5 in height and 12 in depth and click on create.

Now the cube shows up will have the same measurements you just changed in the option box.

One thing is really important I want to explain right hair instead if you delete this cube and create a polygonal cube again you will see that now the cube is created is different than the cube you created at first-time.

Just because you changed the default settings in polygonal cube options. Whenever you create polygonal cube the cube merriments will be the same as you changed 12 cm width, 5 cm in height and 12 cm depth.

You can reset your default setting. Open polygonal cube options again from create menu.

Go in edit select the Reset setting. Settings will change back to the default settings. And when you create a cube again the cube created with the default settings.

The same process will be used for every object you may make in Maya. You can create it on the default settings you can change the settings if you like.

Now we go on and start giving some detail to the cube and reshaping for the lamp base.

First of all let’s create the polygonal cube with the same measurements and open the channel box in pcubeShape1 we do have what calls Subdivisions.

You can add detail in yours object by increasing the subdivisions of the object so you will get more faces and ages to work with and reshaping the model and make the model of you desire.
